Sri Lanka, March 23 -- The Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association (IPPBA) has warned that bus fares may need to increase by more than 10 percent following the latest national fuel price revision, IPPBA President Sarath Vijitha Kumara said.
He told the media that the frequent rise in diesel prices three times a month has become unsustainable for both bus operators and passengers. "Even with higher fares, operating buses at the current diesel cost does not yield any profit," he added.
Sarath Vijitha Kumara further warned that buses may remain out of service until the government announces new fare adjustments, criticizing the authorities for implementing such measures without prior consultation.
