Sri Lanka, Sept. 9 -- The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has launched a special islandwide inspection programme to detect underweight bread and ensure consumers receive the correct weight for the price they pay.

The inspections were conducted from September 1 to 3, with 118 retail outlets and bakeries inspected to determine whether bread was sold at the required weight and whether its weight and price were clearly displayed.

According to initial findings, underweight bread was detected at 54 of the shops and bakeries where weight information was available. The weight of bread was not properly displayed at 76 establishments, while prices were not properly displayed at 65 establishments.
