Sri Lanka, Aug. 12 -- The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has urged President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to make a decision on the proposed constitutional amendment to extend the retirement age of judges only after conducting a broad consultation with experts, BASL President Rajeev Amarasuriya said.

Speaking to the media following a meeting with the President at the Presidential Secretariat today (12), Amarasuriya said the discussion had been successful and expressed hope that it would lead to a change in the government's position on the proposed amendment.

"We discussed our position with the President. This was the first time we met the President regarding this matter. We had requested a meeting some time ago," Amarasuriya said.
