Any uniformed police officer can take action against traffic offenders - Police
Sri Lanka, Oct. 26 -- All police officers wearing the official uniform have the authority to take legal action against traffic offenders under the Motor Traffic Act, Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said.
He told the media that the power to enforce traffic laws was not restricted to officers attached to the Traffic Police, adding that any uniformed officer could take legal action over traffic violations, even when performing duties alone.
ASP Wootler made these remarks while addressing the media in response to questions circulating on social media about the authority of police officers to take action against traffic offenders.
