Anuradhapura launches week-long rabies prevention drive
Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- A week-long programme to strengthen rabies prevention and responsible animal care has commenced in Anuradhapura, with authorities targeting the sterilisation and vaccination of 525 dogs, anti-rabies vaccination of 4,000 dogs and the training of 50 dog vaccinators.
The Anuradhapura World Rabies Day Initiative, being held from September 21 to 28, brings together provincial authorities, the Anuradhapura Municipal Council, the Department of Animal Production and Health (DAPH), veterinary professionals and community organisations.
The programme is being conducted under the leadership of North Central Province Provincial Commissioner Ruwan Wijesinghe, with the support of the Anuradhapura Municipal Council and DAPH.
