Anuradhapura battery storage system connected to national grid
Sri Lanka, Sept. 18 -- The 10 MW/40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) constructed in Anuradhapura was connected to the national electricity grid this morning under the patronage of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
The system was installed with the contribution of Storex (Private) Limited to increase renewable energy capacity and improve the stability of the national electricity system, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
The BESS technology enables excess solar power generated during the day to be stored and released to the national grid during peak demand periods at night.
Under the project, 13 energy storage systems with a combined capacity of 130 MW/520 MWh are to be connected to the national grid.
