Srilanka, Sept. 6 -- The Department of Meteorology has issued an Amber-level advisory for severe lightning, warning residents in several parts of the country to take precautions against potentially hazardous thunderstorms.

The advisory, issued at 11.30 a.m. today (06), will remain in effect until 11.30 p.m. tonight.

According to the Meteorology Department, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at some locations in the Uva and Eastern provinces, as well as in the Polonnaruwa and Mullaittivu districts.

The Department also warned that temporary, localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers.
