Sri Lanka, April 23 -- The Meteorology Department has issued an Amber advisory warning of severe lightning conditions expected in several parts of the country, valid until 11.30 p.m. today.

The advisory covers the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, North-Central, Southern and Uva provinces, as well as the Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

The Department said thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely in some areas of the above provinces and districts after 1.00 p.m. It also warned that temporary, localized strong winds may occur during thundershowers.

The public has been advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of lightning-related hazards.
