Akila Viraj granted bail
Sri Lanka, Aug. 18 -- Former Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam and an employee of his fuel station, who had been remanded over allegations of corruption, were ordered to be released on bail by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
The Magistrate ordered the release of each suspect on two sureties of Rs. 5 million each. The court also imposed a travel ban on both suspects.
The Magistrate issued the order after considering submissions made by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption and counsel appearing for the suspects.
