8-year-old girl dies in Walpola accident
Sri Lanka, Aug. 23 -- An 8-year-old girl has died following a tragic multi-vehicle accident near the Walpola railway crossing on the Ragama-Kandana road on Saturday (August 22).
According to the police, the accident occurred when a garbage transport lorry travelling from the direction of Walpola Temple toward Walpola Railway Station reportedly lost control while the railway crossing gates were closed.
The lorry subsequently crashed into two parked cars and another lorry near the railway crossing.
At the time of the incident, a mother and her two children - a son and an 8-year-old daughter - were walking along the roadside. All three were injured in the collision and were rushed to Ragama Teaching Hospital for treatment.
