Sri Lanka, Nov. 4 -- The 57th Infantry Division has joined 'Operation Hasthi Sena' to identify unauthorised electric fences installed by villagers to protect their properties from wild elephants in several villages near Nelliya and Kumbukgete.

The Sri Lanka Army, together with officials from the Department of Wildlife Conservation, conducted a special inspection on November 4 covering Valgala, Uthuruwella, Ahugoda, Polwatthayaya and Puhulyaya.

The operation was carried out within the area of responsibility of the 571st Infantry Brigade under the 57th Infantry Division, with the aim of protecting wild elephants and reducing human-elephant conflict.
