Sri Lanka, March 2 -- A total of 500 patients affected by the recent Dithwa cyclone received free cataract surgeries during a special two-day programme held on February 28 and March 1 at the Gampola District General Hospital.

Chairman Ayodhya Sampath de Silva said the initiative was fully sponsored by the Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society and conducted under the guidance of the College of Ophthalmologists of Sri Lanka.

The Sri Lanka Eye Donation Society contributed over Rs. 6.5 million towards the programme, enabling hundreds of underprivileged patients to regain their vision.
