5,000 solar technicians needed annually to meet 2030 renewable energy target: PUCSL
Sri Lanka, Sept. 3 -- Sri Lanka needs to produce around 5,000 qualified solar power technicians annually to support the installation of approximately 600 megawatts of solar power capacity each year and achieve its target of generating 70% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Prof. K.P.L. Chandralal said.
He said the rapid expansion of the solar power industry had created an urgent need for a properly trained and professionally qualified workforce.
More than 1,000 companies have obtained licences from the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority (SLSEA) to import and install solar power systems, while around 10,000 people are currently employed in the sector.
