Sri Lanka, March 10 -- A total of 457 fatal road accidents have been reported across Sri Lanka so far in 2026, resulting in 475 deaths, DIG in-charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety W. P. J. Senadheera said.
He said that 983 serious accidents and 1,942 minor accidents have also been recorded during the same period.
Compared to the corresponding period last year, road accidents have increased by 50 incidents, while the number of deaths has risen by 56, he said.
He further said that 3,437 illicit drug-related cases have been detected, while 1,535 medical tests were conducted at more than 10 locations as part of traffic enforcement operations.
