Sri Lanka, Sept. 23 -- Following the Supreme Court's determination that a referendum is not required for the proposed 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, Parliament is set to approve the Bill on Friday (25) with a two-thirds majority, following a two-day debate.

Announcing the much-awaited determination of the Supreme Court, Speaker Jagath Wickramaratne said the Supreme Court had ruled that the provisions of the "Twenty-Second Amendment to the Constitution" Bill do not require approval by the people at a referendum under Article 83 of the Constitution.
