Sri Lanka, Sept. 20 -- Twenty Sri Lankans who had been arrested and remanded by Kuwaiti authorities for allegedly staying in the country without valid visas were deported to Sri Lanka early yesterday, airport officials said.

The deportees, who had travelled to Kuwait for various employment opportunities including domestic work, were arrested while allegedly working at locations other than those authorised under their employment arrangements and without valid visas.

They were deported from Kuwait City at around 3.10 a.m. yesterday on an Al Jazeera Airlines flight JN-551 and arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport.
