Sri Lanka, July 9 -- Eight men convicted of murdering a woman by assaulting her with sharp weapons and clubs and causing grievous injuries to two others were today sentenced to death by Colombo High Court Judge Buddhika Sri Ragala.

Delivering the judgment, the Judge held that the prosecution had proved the charges against the accused beyond reasonable doubt.

The court observed that the evidence established that the accused had committed the offences, which took place more than 32 years ago.

The accused sentenced to death are P.A.K. Nishantha Kumara, Ishad Moses, Rohan Janaka Sampath Sagara, Anil Indrajith, Kanagaraja Thiron, Somarathna Silva, Hikkaduwa Liyanage Nihal and K.W. Ajith Kulathunga.
