14 students confirmed with meningitis in Uva Province
Sri Lanka, May 22 -- Health officials have confirmed that 10 students showing symptoms of meningitis are currently receiving treatment at the Welimada Base Hospital, while a further 18 students with similar symptoms are being treated at the Diyatalawa Base Hospital.
According to hospital sources, a group of schoolchildren from the Welimada, Keppetipola and Udaperuwa areas had been admitted to hospital after developing symptoms associated with meningitis. Doctors confirmed that four students receiving treatment at the Welimada Base Hospital had tested positive for the disease.
The remaining students who showed symptoms have undergone medical tests, and authorities are awaiting the reports.
