Sri Lanka, Sept. 14 -- An investigation has been launched by the Ududumbara Police following a complaint regarding the tragic drowning of an 11-year-old Buddhist novice monk in the Heen Ganga, at Kaikawala in Ududumbara.

According to initial police inquiries, the young monk was residing at a temple in the Minuwangoda police division. The novice thera had traveled to the Ududumbara area along with several other monks to participate in an almsgiving ceremony.

The incident occurred while the group of monks was bathing in the Heen Ganga prior to attending the function.

The Ududumbara Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
