1,665 schools operate with fewer than 50 students each
Sri Lanka, Sept. 17 -- In the wake of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake's remarks on the plan for restructuring the school system, statistics reveal that 1,665 schools, including one national school, operate with fewer than 50 students each.
According to statistics compiled for last year, 49,189 students study in these schools, with 10,324 teachers assigned to them. Another 1,648 schools have student populations between 51 and 100, accommodating 122,891 students with 16,923 teachers.
The number of schools with 101 to 200 students stands at 2,149, accommodating 314,851 students with 34,450 teachers. Those with student numbers between 201 and 500 amount to 2,546, with 812,019 students and 56,925 teachers.
