Sri Lanka, May 28 -- Coinciding with World Environment Day, another phase of the "Wanaspathi" National Programme, dedicated to protecting elephant habitats and wildlife across Sri Lanka is scheduled to be implemented, the Wildlife Conservation Department said.

As part of this initiative, the 'Aliya Wetunu Wewa' forest will also be designated and protected as a forest reserve.

The department said the 'Aliya Wetunu Wewa' Reserved Forest is a 69.27-hectare area located within the Kekirawa Division of the Kekirawa Divisional Secretariat in the Anuradhapura District.

The forest exhibits classic dry-zone ecological characteristics and is rich in biodiversity, providing a vital habitat for a range of wildlife species, including elephants. A n...
