Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- Tripura's transport minister will introduce online cab services on September three as part of a state government initiative to modernise local passenger transportation. The platform will connect passengers with registered drivers through a mobile application and a web portal and will provide booking, tracking and payment functions. Officials said the launch aims to streamline fares and improve service reliability across urban and periurban areas. Officials added that the service is intended to bolster tourism and last mile connectivity in smaller towns.
The transport department will oversee registration and compliance for operators and drivers and will issue licences under existing state regulations. Safety measures will include mandatory background checks, vehicle fitness verification and use of GPS for real time monitoring. The platform will support cashless transactions and provide digital receipts to enhance transparency. Officials indicated that consumer grievance redressal mechanisms will be integrated into the service.
The initiative is presented as a way to expand mobility options for commuters and to integrate smaller transport providers into a digital ecosystem. Training and familiarisation programmes for drivers will be offered to assist with the transition to app based dispatch and payment systems. Authorities said the scheme will be monitored for operational performance and compliance with passenger safety norms. Data protection measures and limits on data sharing will be implemented to protect user privacy.
The launch on September three will be followed by a phased rollout across municipal centres and selected rural hubs to ensure network reliability. Officials said partnerships with local municipalities and law enforcement will support regulation and enforcement of standards. The state government intends to review progress and scale the service based on operational data and commuter feedback.
