Mumbai, Oct. 13 -- TP Solar, the solar manufacturing arm of Tata Power, produced 1 GW of modules and 0.9 GW of solar cells during the second quarter of FY27, according to a company statement. The production performance formed part of the company's broader manufacturing activity during the first half of the financial year.

Between April and September, TP Solar manufactured 2 GW of modules and 1.8 GW of cells. The modules comply with Domestic Content Requirement (DCR) norms and are approved under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), supporting their use in projects requiring domestically produced equipment.

TP Solar operates a 4.3 GW single-location solar cell and module manufacturing facility in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. The plant is among India's largest such facilities and has a workforce in which women account for nearly 80 per cent, according to the company.

Tata Power, through its subsidiary Tata Power Renewable Energy (TPREL), has invested nearly Rs. 43 bn in establishing the facility. The investment is intended to strengthen domestic manufacturing across the solar value chain and support the company's aim of building greater self-sufficiency in cell and module production.

The plant uses advanced Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Mono PERC technologies. It produces ALMM-certified modules as well as DCR modules using cells manufactured at the facility. Its systems also include artificial intelligence and machine learning-based controls and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs), which the company said improve automation and operational efficiency.

The facility is part of Tata Power's wider effort to expand local solar manufacturing capacity and support India's transition towards a net-zero carbon future. The company's production update highlights the growing role of integrated domestic facilities in supplying cells and modules for the country's renewable energy expansion.
