Mumbai, Sept. 1 -- Titagarh Rail Systems has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding with Siemens to jointly evaluate international metro rolling stock opportunities. Titagarh Rail Systems, hereafter TRSL, said the arrangement was expected to further strengthen TRSL's commitment to promote local manufacturing in India. The tie-up positions TRSL to pursue global metro contracts alongside an established engineering group.

TRSL reported a total order book of Rs 266.35 bn at the end of the first quarter of fiscal 2027, including its share of joint venture orders. Passenger Rail Systems accounted for Rs 103.95 bn and Freight Rail Systems for Rs 24.7 bn of that total. The company said it expected to deliver its first Vande Bharat train by the end of calendar 2026 or the beginning of Q4 FY27 and that around 51 per cent of the car value from the current contract would accrue to TRSL through a consortium with BHEL.

The company is prioritising Bangalore and Gujarat metro projects and expected to complete most work during FY27, with some deliveries potentially spilling into Q1 FY28. It plans to begin a Mumbai Metro prototype in Q4 FY27 or in the first quarter of calendar 2027. Management said delays of two to three months in infrastructure projects would not materially affect execution plans.

Passenger Rail Systems contributed 31 per cent of TRSL's revenue in the quarter, its highest quarterly share. The company dispatched more than 30 coaches during the period and said coach dispatches rose nearly 400 per cent year-on-year and 43 per cent quarter-on-quarter. PRS revenue rose from Rs 1.3 bn to Rs 1.7 bn and then to Rs 2.3 bn across recent quarters, and TRSL aims to raise coach production to 45-50 coaches per quarter in FY27 and to build capacity for more than 850 coaches a year by FY29-FY30.
