Mumbai, Aug. 7 -- REC Power Development and Consultancy Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of REC Ltd, transferred the project-specific special purpose vehicle Ryapte Power Transmission Ltd to Tata Power Company Limited on 30 July 2026 after Tata Power was selected under a tariff-based competitive bidding process by RECPDCL. The formal handover was attended by senior officials from RECPDCL, Tata Power and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited. The SPV was handed over by Monisha Barua, general manager and head of department at RECPDCL, to Tarun Katiyar, chief executive officer and managing director of Tata Power Trading Company Limited.
The transfer marks the start of a major transmission infrastructure scheme to evacuate renewable energy from the 2,000 megawatt (MW) Ryapte Solar Park in Tumkur district, Karnataka. The project will be developed under the build, own, operate and transfer model with an estimated investment of around Rs 32 billion (bn). Development activities are scheduled to be completed within 30 months from commencement, and the programme is intended to support large-scale solar integration. The project timeline reflects the scale and complexity of constructing high voltage substations and long transmission corridors.
The scope includes a 400/220 kilovolt substation at Ryapte and a 400/220 kilovolt gas-insulated substation at Doddathaggalli near Hosakote. Tata Power will construct a 400 kilovolt double-circuit transmission line of approximately 207 kilometres linking Doddathaggalli with Ryapte and Kolar, together with a 220 kilovolt double-circuit line of nearly 57 kilometres to connect Ekarajapura, Hosakote and Sarjapura. These elements form the backbone required to evacuate large blocks of renewable generation to the state grid.
The transmission network is expected to play a key role in evacuating clean power from the solar park and ensuring reliable delivery of renewable electricity across Karnataka. The scheme is also expected to enhance intra-state transmission capacity and relieve evacuation bottlenecks associated with rapid solar additions. The collaboration between RECPDCL, Tata Power and KPTCL highlights increasing private sector participation in critical power infrastructure delivered through competitive bidding. Successful delivery of the project will reinforce Karnataka's position in the national transition to cleaner energy sources.
