Mumbai, July 1 -- Patratu Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (PVUNL) commenced commercial operations of its second 800 megawatt (MW) unit at Ramgarh on June 25, taking the project operational capacity to 1,600 MW within seven months. PVUNL is a joint venture of NTPC Limited and Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited and the second unit brings the twin units into service. The units will contribute to base load capacity for the electricity system and support planned distribution scheduling.

The company said the commissioning of unit two would strengthen reliable power supply to Jharkhand and to other beneficiary states. Both 800 MW units were commissioned within seven months, a significant milestone in project execution that enhances the country's power generation capacity. The addition of capacity will support regional grid stability and help meet rising electricity demand. The project timeline and rapid commissioning reflect streamlined coordination among stakeholders involved in construction and commissioning.

Commercial operations of the second unit follow the first unit brought into service earlier this year, completing the twin-unit commissioning programme in a short timeframe.
