Mumbai, July 17 -- Power Grid Corporation of India (POWERGRID) has been selected as the successful bidder for a major inter-state transmission system project announced by REC Power Development and Consultancy (RECPDCL) following a tariff-based competitive bidding process, and RECPDCL issued the Letter of Intent on nine July 2026. The project is intended to enable the evacuation of nearly 20 GW of renewable energy from Rajasthan and to strengthen the national transmission network in support of decarbonisation goals. The selection reflects a move to expand transmission capacity to match burgeoning renewable generation in the state.
The scheme, titled Augmentation at Bhadla-III, Ramgarh PS and Kanpur (PG), will be implemented under a build, own, operate and transfer model under which POWERGRID will develop, own, operate and maintain the assets for the concession period before transfer. The principal works comprise augmentation and bay extension at the Bhadla-III and Ramgarh substations in Rajasthan and at the Kanpur substation in Uttar Pradesh. These upgrades are designed to improve power transfer capability and facilitate the evacuation of large volumes of solar and wind power into the national grid.
POWERGRID notified the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited through a regulatory filing under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements Regulations, 2015 to disclose the material development consistent with listing norms. Rajasthan has emerged as a major renewable energy producing state and enhanced transmission capacity is considered essential to integrate increasing generation from renewables. The project is expected to play an important role in strengthening the green energy corridor that links generation hubs with demand centres across the country.
Once completed, the scheme is projected to improve grid reliability, support efficient power evacuation and contribute to India's longer term renewable energy expansion and energy transition objectives. The concession approach and the tariff based competitive process are intended to mobilise investment and accelerate build out of critical transmission infrastructure. REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited managed the selection process and awarded the contract to POWERGRID following completion of the bidding.
