Mumbai, July 15 -- Pace Digitek has won a contract to deliver a 250 MW/500 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Maithan in Jharkhand. The scope covers design, engineering, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the storage plant and associated infrastructure. The award follows growing interest in grid-scale storage to support renewable integration.

The contract also includes a 12-year operation and maintenance contract to cover long-term performance and reliability of the facility. Pace Digitek will be responsible for routine servicing, asset management and performance monitoring across the plant life. The extended O&M element is intended to ensure continuity of services and optimise availability.

The BESS will provide grid flexibility by storing surplus generation and releasing energy during peak demand periods, helping to balance variable renewable energy output. The system's capacity is sized to offer both short-duration response and multi-hour discharge capability, enabling improved frequency management and reserve provision. Deployment at Maithan is expected to support local grid stability and assist in meeting regional demand patterns.

Pace Digitek framed the project as aligned with its strategy to deliver reliable energy solutions and to support India's energy transition towards cleaner systems. The company positioned the contract as a step to bolster infrastructure resilience and to facilitate further integration of renewable generation at scale. Industry observers note that such projects are increasingly central to planning for a decarbonised power system.

Construction and commissioning phases are likely to engage local contractors and service providers, generating employment and supporting regional supply chains.
