Mumbai, Nov. 5 -- Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari performed the bhoomipujan ceremony for a multi-modal logistics park at Sindi Railway in Wardha on November 1. The facility is intended to support direct exports from Vidarbha, reduce cargo movement costs and create employment opportunities for residents in the region.
The project is being developed by National Highways Logistics Management, a special purpose vehicle of the National Highways Authority of India, through AMARA TRANZ Solution. The ceremony was attended by Maharashtra Guardian Minister Pankaj Bhoyar, MLA Sameer Kunawar, District Collector Vanmathi C, former MP Ramdas Tadas and Sindi Railway Municipal Council President Rani Kalode.
The park will enable cotton, cotton lint, yarn, oranges, vegetables and textiles from Vidarbha to reach international markets through the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority. Cargo will also be moved along the Mumbai-Colombo-Dhaka route, while shipments to Bangladesh will be routed through Haldia in Kolkata without first travelling to Mumbai. The first rake carrying Maruti cars has already begun operations from the project.
National Highways Logistics Management and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority are jointly developing the facility across 150 acres near Sindi Railway station. The dry port is intended to reduce transportation costs per container from Rs. 0.15 mn to Rs. 0.1 mn, benefiting farmers and exporters in Vidarbha.
The park, located near the Nagpur-Wardha district border, will receive funding from the Central and state governments. Planned facilities include cold storage, warehouses and exporter clusters to consolidate industries from Nagpur and Wardha. A customs office at Sindi Railway will allow the facility to handle containers from across India and international destinations, strengthening the region's logistics and export infrastructure.
