Mumbai, Oct. 8 -- The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun the process of establishing a toll plaza at Janaula on the under-construction Gurugram-Pataudi-Rewari highway. The facility is projected to generate Rs. 570 mn annually for the highway authority once operational.
The proposed plaza will have eight lanes in each direction and use a multi-lane free flow (MLFF) system, allowing vehicles to pay tolls without stopping. NHAI officials said approximately 80 per cent of the toll plaza construction has been completed, while the MLFF tender has already been floated and bids are scheduled to open on October 23.
The contractor selected for the MLFF work will design, supply, install, test and commission the tolling infrastructure. This will include one gantry on the main carriageway, including paved shoulders, in each direction. The gantries will be installed approximately 350 metres downstream of the respective fee plaza, following the direction of traffic movement. Janaula is about 19 km from the Dwarka Expressway.
The 45-km Gurugram-Rewari-Pataudi highway has been built at a cost of Rs. 19 bn, including Rs. 6 bn spent on land acquisition. Most of the project is complete, apart from a railway overbridge at Pahari village and a flyover at the Dwarka Expressway, with both works scheduled for completion by March.
NHAI has started load-bearing tests on the Jamalpur flyover, which officials said would open shortly. The Patli flyover is nearly complete and is scheduled to open within 15 days. Three flyovers between the Dwarka Expressway, Wazirpur and the Pataudi bypass were opened earlier this month. Officials estimate that about 70 per cent of traffic travelling between Gurugram and Rewari via the Delhi-Jaipur Highway will move to the new route, easing congestion on both corridors.
