Mumbai, Aug. 27 -- Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi directed officials to draw up and implement measures for a permanent solution to the growing traffic congestion in the twin city of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. He asked officials to explore an alternative eight-lane road for pilgrims and tourists travelling towards Puri. He stressed the need for coordinated action to improve traffic flow as well as beautification and cleanliness of the two urban centres.
He directed departments to immediately repair major roads and traffic junctions that are in poor condition. He called for strengthening the smart traffic management system to ensure smoother movement and reduce congestion. The meeting emphasised expansion of roads to facilitate uninterrupted movement between Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Puri.
Officials discussed development of major traffic junctions and the construction of flyovers and overbridges at critical locations. They were asked to ensure stricter implementation of smart traffic signals and CCTV-based monitoring and to take firm action against illegal parking. The chief minister instructed that the roads connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack and their surrounding areas be developed as clean, well-organised and aesthetically appealing corridors.
The review was held at Lok Seva Bhawan and included senior officials such as Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Development Commissioner DK Singh, Additional Chief Secretary Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh and Police Commissioner Debadutta Singh. Officials were tasked to prepare implementation schedules, prioritise critical junctions and report timelines for repairs, expansion and installation of intelligent traffic systems. The approach was framed as a combined infrastructure and technology push to reduce bottlenecks and improve commuter experience across the twin city.
They were instructed to coordinate with relevant agencies, develop clear timelines and set measurable performance indicators to monitor progress. Regular review meetings were to be scheduled to assess outcomes and to adjust measures as required. The chief minister emphasised that the combined interventions should aim to deliver lasting relief from congestion while enhancing urban amenity.
