Mumbai, Aug. 3 -- The Water Resources Department of the Government of Maharashtra has invited bids from eligible contractors and developers for two renewable energy projects under a public-private partnership model. The tender, issued by the Executive Engineer of the Purna Irrigation Division at Basmathnagar as E-Tender Notice No. 02 for the financial year 2026-27, covers redevelopment and management of an existing hydroelectric installation and the development of a large floating solar and storage facility on the Purna Project reservoir. The document was issued on 24 July 2026 and detailed bid papers will be available online from 28 July to 11 August 2026.
The first assignment entails the upgradation, operation, maintenance and management of the existing 22.5 Megawatt (MW) Yeldari Dam hydroelectric plant that forms part of the Purna Irrigation Project. The concession seeks to improve operational efficiency, ensure sustained maintenance regimes and maximise renewable power output from the existing hydro resource. The scope will be offered to selected developers under the PPP framework with technical bids scheduled for opening on 12 August 2026.
The second assignment concerns the development of a 200 Megawatt (MW) Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV) installation integrated with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) on the reservoir surface. The initiative aims to utilise available water surface area for clean power generation while incorporating storage to support grid stability and enhance renewable energy utilisation. The preliminary tender notice did not specify details on Earnest Money Deposit or Performance Bank Guarantee, and bidders are required to consult the state e-tender portal for full financial and contractual conditions.
All bidding activity must be completed online through the Maharashtra government e-tender portal and the department has instructed participants to monitor the portal for corrigenda, modifications and additional instructions. No separate notifications will be issued through other media channels and compliance with online submission requirements is mandatory. The projects form part of Maharashtra's strategy to expand renewable generation by combining hydropower, floating solar and battery storage and are expected to support cleaner power supply while making efficient use of existing water infrastructure.
