Mumbai, July 23 -- The Madhya Pradesh government has launched construction of the Ujjain-Jaora greenfield highway, a major road infrastructure project in the Malwa region that carries an estimated investment of Rs 50.17 billion (Rs 50.17 bn). The four-lane corridor will extend for 98.73 kilometres from Mangrola near Ujjain to Jaora in Ratlam district and will provide a direct link to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway via an eight-lane interchange. The route is designed to reduce travel time and strengthen access to the national highway network.
The project will be developed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC) under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), combining public and private sector participation in financing and execution. The foundation was laid at Nagda by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, who framed the scheme as a strategic investment in regional infrastructure. The state government has set December 2027 as the target for completion to ensure the corridor is operational ahead of Simhastha 2028.
Officials indicated the highway is expected to support industrial growth, logistics and tourism by improving freight movement and offering a more efficient route for commercial vehicles. Improved road capacity is anticipated to benefit agricultural supply chains, manufacturing units and logistics operators by reducing transportation time and easing market access for businesses across western Madhya Pradesh. Enhanced connectivity between urban centres and surrounding rural areas is seen as a factor that can attract new investment.
The design includes multiple engineering structures such as flyovers, railway overbridges, major and medium bridges, underpasses, overpasses and culverts to maintain uninterrupted movement and local connectivity. By linking Ujjain more directly with a key economic corridor, the highway is intended to become a significant transport link supporting mobility and long-term regional development.
