Mumbai, Sept. 1 -- Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) has awarded Johnson Lifts Pvt. Ltd. a Rs896.1 million (mn) contract after the company emerged as the sole bidder to supply and commission heavy-duty elevators and escalators for the Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra Metro projects. The award covers supply of equipment, installation and commissioning across station locations designated by the client. The contract value includes obligations for initial delivery and on-site integration with station access systems.
The agreement requires Johnson Lifts to complete installation and testing of the equipment and to hand over functioning systems in accordance with project schedules set by UPMRC. The supplier is also required to provide maintenance support during a two-year Defect Liability Period and to enter a further one-year Comprehensive Annual Maintenance Contract following that period. The maintenance scope extends to corrective measures and routine servicing as specified in the procurement documents.
Procurement officials indicated the contract will support operational readiness for the three metro systems by ensuring vertical transport is installed and maintained to handle passenger flows. The heavy-duty escalators and elevators are intended to meet the durability and safety requirements typical of urban rapid transit networks and to integrate with platform and concourse layouts. Equipment commissioning will be coordinated with civil works and signalling milestones to avoid disruption to overall project timelines.
The contract award follows a competitive tender process in which Johnson Lifts participated as the sole responsive bidder, and it underscores the emphasis on securing long term maintenance support alongside equipment supply. UPMRC retains responsibility for project oversight and acceptance testing during handover. The arrangement is expected to ensure continuity of service provision through the defect liability stage and the subsequent maintenance contract period.
