Mumbai, July 23 -- Chief Minister Hemant Soren has set a two-month deadline for the completion of a set of key road projects across Jharkhand, instructing the state Public Works Department to accelerate work and resolve bottlenecks. He asked that project timelines be revised to ensure early delivery and that adequate funds, machinery and labour be mobilised. The directive covered both stretches of national highways that pass through the state and upgrade works on district and rural roads intended to improve connectivity. Officials were told to prioritise safety and quality while adhering to the revised schedule.
The government instructed district administrations and contractors to synchronise efforts, deploy additional equipment and extend working hours where feasible to meet the deadline. It required clear assignment of responsibilities and timebound milestones, and directed the Public Works Department to address land acquisition and utility relocation issues without delay. Emphasis was placed on preventing recurring delays by identifying critical path activities and fast-tracking approvals for pending clearances.
A monitoring mechanism was put in place under which weekly progress reports will be submitted to the chief minister's office and performance will be reviewed at regular intervals. The administration recommended the use of real-time tracking tools and project dashboards to measure work completed and materials consumed, enabling targeted interventions. District collectors were assigned specific stretches to oversee and report deviations, and an escalation matrix was established for unresolved impediments.
The state government says timely completion is expected to improve road safety, reduce travel time and provide a boost to local economic activity through better market access. Officials indicated that the accelerated schedule aims to enhance connectivity ahead of forthcoming development initiatives and to deliver visible outcomes for commuters and businesses. The chief minister underlined that failure to meet the timeline would lead to accountability measures against those responsible.
