Mumbai, Aug. 26 -- Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri signed a government-to-government Memorandum of Understanding on oil and gas cooperation with Mauritius in Port Louis on August 20. The signing coincided with a five-year supply agreement between Indian Oil Corporation (IndianOil) and the State Trading Corporation of Mauritius (STC Mauritius) to secure deliveries of petroleum products. The arrangement aims to provide long-term supply certainty and enhanced energy security for Mauritius. Officials said the pact marked a milestone in the India-Mauritius partnership.
Under the supply agreement IndianOil will provide petrol, diesel, marine gas oil and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) to Mauritius to stabilise prices and support mobility and connectivity. The deal builds on an energy relationship that began in 2001 when IndianOil started serving Mauritius through IndianOil Mauritius Limited. Officials said the pact would bolster economic growth by securing fuel for transport and maritime services. The agreement was described as further proof of India's reliability as an energy partner.
Puri held talks with Mauritius Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection John Michael Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen on enhancing energy resilience and deepening cooperation. They discussed measures to sustain uninterrupted supplies of affordable and sustainable energy products despite disruptions to global supply chains. Puri reiterated India's commitment to support Mauritius' long-term energy security. The ministers noted a Supply Purchase Agreement for white oils between IndianOil and STC Mauritius, the first such agreement by India outside South Asia.
Officials said the step reflects efforts to diversify partners and tools for regional energy engagement while reinforcing longstanding diplomatic links. The five-year contract is designed to give predictability for procurement and inventory planning in Port Louis. Authorities indicated the arrangement will complement existing commercial channels and help absorb shocks to maritime fuel logistics across the Indian Ocean. Both sides expressed intent to pursue further cooperation along the energy value chain.
