Mumbai, July 23 -- HBL Engineering has won a contract from the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) to supply on board Kavach equipment for Indian Railways. The deal is valued at Rs 240 million (mn), representing the conversion of Rs 24 crore into million terms. The contract covers the manufacture and delivery of on board signalling equipment designed for train collision avoidance.

The company will deliver electronic units and associated subsystems that form the on board component of the Kavach system. Deliveries will be scheduled to align with installation and commissioning at ICF and on designated rolling stock. HBL Engineering will coordinate with railway agencies to ensure compliance with technical standards and testing protocols.

The Kavach train protection system is intended to enhance safety by preventing signal passing at danger and reducing collision risk. Equipment supplied under this contract will interface with trackside components and on board train control systems to provide automatic braking intervention when required. This work supports India's broader modernisation of railway safety infrastructure.

The order will strengthen HBL Engineering's order book and contribute to revenue in the near term while reinforcing its position in rail safety electronics. The company will leverage its manufacturing capabilities and local supply chain to meet quality and delivery milestones. The contract underlines growing demand for indigenous signalling solutions and the emphasis on domestic manufacturing.

HBL Engineering will execute the project from its existing facilities and will manage system integration, factory acceptance testing and support for field trials to validate performance under operational conditions. The company will allocate dedicated engineering resources and quality assurance teams to oversee manufacturing and certification activities. Coordination will be required across suppliers and railway authorities to sustain schedules and meet regulatory clearances. The assignment will also enable transfer of technical know how, build supplier capability and strengthen local vendor ecosystems over time.
