Mumbai, June 26 -- Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini inaugurated a set of aviation facilities at the Bhiwani airstrip on Wednesday, marking a significant investment in the region's aviation infrastructure. The ceremony brought into operation a new aircraft hangar, an Air Traffic Control (ATC) building, a security outpost and a canteen, signalling a broadened capacity for the airstrip. State officials described the development as a major step towards strengthening aviation capabilities in western Haryana and improving regional connectivity.
The work was completed at a cost of Rs 310 million (mn), which the state identified as funding for enhanced aviation training, aircraft maintenance and expanded flight operations. Officials indicated that the investment will support both civilian flight training schools and technical maintenance services, creating opportunities for skills development and local employment. The chief minister said the project reflects the government's commitment to balanced regional development and to positioning the state more prominently on the national aviation map.
Authorities outlined that the new hangar and ATC facility will enable improved scheduling and safer handling of a higher number of sorties, while the security outpost and canteen are intended to meet operational and welfare needs. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to reduce turnaround times for aircraft undergoing maintenance and to provide a base for routine inspections, thereby enhancing the reliability of services from the airstrip. Local administrations were reported to be exploring partnerships with private training academies and maintenance organisations to leverage the expanded capacity without delay.
The chief minister also unveiled an expansion plan valued at Rs 310 mn to further develop the facility and to accommodate future operational needs, with detailed stages to be finalised by the state aviation department. Officials said the phased approach will seek to balance capital expenditure with operational readiness and to attract ancillary services that support aviation clusters. Observers noted that improvements at the Bhiwani airstrip could have wider economic benefits by supporting connectivity, skill enhancement and employment in adjacent districts.
