Mumbai, June 30 -- Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has initiated the tendering process for geotechnical investigation works for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3B. The assignment covers a 12.576 km elevated section from Canal Road to Badrabad Dead End, between chainage 6904.984 and 19481.228, and is listed under Tender Id GMRC/GEOTECH/PH-3(B)/2026. The tender estimates the cost at Rs 14.6 million (Rs 14.6 mn) exclusive of GST, with a completion period of four months and a bid submission deadline of 23 July 2026.
The scope calls for the engagement of an agency to undertake comprehensive geotechnical investigations along the proposed elevated corridor to assess sub-surface conditions and to support the detailed design of civil structures. The work follows a recent geotechnical tender for Phase 3C and forms part of broader efforts to advance the Phase III programme swiftly. The investigations are intended to provide the empirical basis for foundation and structural design decisions.
Key tasks include borehole drilling at designated locations and the collection of soil and rock samples to determine the engineering properties of the strata. The selected contractor is required to carry out laboratory testing and in situ assessments to characterise soil stratification, groundwater conditions and bearing capacity. Deliverables will include detailed geotechnical reports that set out foundation recommendations and other parameters required for viaduct piers, stations and ancillary structures.
Contractors will be expected to apply the findings to optimise foundation design, improve constructability and ensure structural safety during execution. The investigations aim to reduce design risk, inform procurement of civil works and facilitate smooth coordination with subsequent construction phases. GMRC views the tender as a preparatory step to materialise the metro expansion at the earliest.
