Mumbai, July 1 -- Goa has opened a new four-storey riverfront administrative building for the Captain of Ports Department constructed at a cost of Rs 488.7 million (mn). The ship-shaped structure sits on the waterfront and has been designed to combine contemporary architecture with functional port operations. The project was developed to provide a dedicated headquarters for maritime administration and to modernise support for harbour services. The cost figure reflects capital investment in coastal administration and related infrastructure improvements.
The facility includes modern navigation and harbour management systems to support efficient vessel movement, safety oversight and coordination with port stakeholders. Office accommodation has been arranged to consolidate departmental functions and to enable faster administrative processing. The layout is intended to streamline operational workflows and improve response times for maritime incidents. The navigation suite is integrated with communication lines for seamless coordination during routine operations and emergency responses.
The complex incorporates an amphitheatre and a restaurant alongside office floors, creating a multi-purpose public interface that can host training and outreach activities. Designated commercial units have been planned for lease to generate recurring income for the department. Authorities anticipate that leasing will contribute to the building maintenance and provide supplementary revenue streams. Leased premises will be managed under departmental oversight with revenues earmarked for upkeep and operational expenses.
