Mumbai, Aug. 12 -- Chief minister Omar Abdullah late Thursday evening inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a series of key development projects worth Rs 600 million (mn) in the housing and urban development sector across Jammu city and adjoining areas, saying his government is committed to creating sustainable, inclusive and people-centric urban infrastructure across Jammu and Kashmir. The works include transport, heritage and environmental initiatives aimed at improving livability and tourism appeal.
Among the projects the chief minister dedicated the Waste-to-Wonder Park at Bhagwati Nagar to the public, describing it as a facility that transforms discarded materials into artistic installations and recreational spaces. Developed under the Smart City Mission at a cost of Rs 110 million (mn), the park features replicas of global and national landmarks and is intended to boost visitor numbers and local recreation.
He also laid the foundation stone for a depot for 100 electric buses under the PM e-Bus Sewa Scheme at Bhagwati Nagar, a project executed by Jammu Smart City Limited under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme and CAPEX at a cost of Rs 230.4 million (mn) that will provide infrastructure for operation and maintenance of an electric bus fleet. The initiative is presented as part of efforts to promote cleaner and more efficient public transport in Jammu.
The chief minister also initiated a rejuvenation and restoration scheme for the Flowing Nallah at Tan Talab Kundarorian in Katra to be executed by the public works department under CAPEX at a cost of Rs 51.4 million (mn), aimed at improving ecological health of the water channel while enhancing sanitation and urban environment in the pilgrimage town. He additionally opened a heritage trail and site beautification project developed at a cost of Rs 157.4 million (mn) to preserve cultural assets and improve pedestrian accessibility.
