Mumbai, Aug. 31 -- Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has invited bids for comprehensive maintenance, repair and painting works at Thiru Vi Ka Park, which sits above the Shenoy Nagar Metro Station. The tender document states the contract will run for 730 days and that the deadline for submission of bids is September 17. Bids will remain valid for 180 days from the stipulated submission date.

The scope of work covers maintenance of water supply and drainage systems in the park, including regular inspections, cleaning and maintenance of all pipes, valves, fittings, pumps and tanks, together with prompt repair of any damages or malfunctions. The contractor will also be required to carry out regular testing and monitoring to ensure water quality is maintained and to prevent contamination. Routine maintenance tasks and timely repairs have been specified as part of the two-year upkeep plan.

For the earlier period of maintenance, CMRL awarded a contract worth Rs 45.9 million (Rs 45.9 mn) to Quess Corp Limited in November 2023 and the new tender has been floated following expiry of that agreement. Thiru Vi Ka Park was renovated and reopened in April 2023 after it was taken over by CMRL from the Greater Chennai Corporation. The authority has made the park available to the public during specified hours to balance community access with operational considerations.

Under the tender, the selected contractor will be responsible for all aspects of upkeep, repair and painting works over the contract period and for ensuring systems function to prevent safety hazards. CMRL officials have outlined that maintenance activities will be scheduled to minimise disruption to visitors and to preserve facilities for recreational use. The agency emphasises the work is part of ongoing efforts to keep the park safe, clean and accessible to residents.
