Mumbai, Aug. 27 -- Bengaluru officials from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) and Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) reviewed progress on construction of the Airport Terminal Metro Station and Airport West Metro Station and set timelines for completing various works. The coordination meeting was held to accelerate delivery and improve interface between the organisations and contractors involved in the project. The discussions aimed to align contractor schedules with airport operational requirements and minimise disruption to existing services.
The meeting was chaired by BMRCL managing director P C Jaffer and BIAL managing director and chief executive officer Hari Marar and focused on interface issues including track alignment, traction and signalling, architectural finishing and other site works. Officials examined sequencing of tasks to reduce delays and clarified responsibilities for system integration. Coordination on vendor deliverables and timelines was emphasised to ensure systems function seamlessly.
Officials inspected the Airport Terminal Metro Station and reviewed installation of passenger amenities and various systems. The station will provide direct connectivity to Kempegowda International Airport terminal two while terminal one will be linked via a foot overbridge equipped with travellators. Planned passenger facilities include baggage screening systems, baggage drop facilities and check-in counters to streamline airrail transfers. Accessibility provisions and passenger flow management were reviewed to facilitate smooth transfers between train and terminal facilities.
The station is being developed at the airport multi-modal transport hub to provide integration with car-parking facilities and intra-city and inter-city bus services. BMRCL and BIAL discussed pending works and fixed timelines for completing different activities and set milestones to monitor progress. Agencies will coordinate inspections and system tests as the project advances towards operational readiness. A joint oversight mechanism will track progress against the milestones and enable regular reviews until commissioning is completed.
