Mumbai, July 20 -- Afcons Infrastructure Limited (Afcons) has erected the first segment of the Blue Line for the Bhopal Metro, marking a milestone in the city rapid transit project. The work forms part of the civil construction contract awarded to the contractor and signals progress on the elevated corridor. Project managers said the activity follows scheduled erection plans and adheres to safety and quality protocols and environmental safeguards during execution. The milestone follows months of preparatory work including foundation casting, pier erection and logistics planning across the corridor.
The segment comprises a precast girder and associated pier works that will form the backbone of the elevated track. A launching gantry was used to position the element and engineers carried out alignment and tolerance checks before final closure. The construction method aims to accelerate delivery while minimising disruption at ground level and reduce interface risks with utilities. Quality assurance teams documented welds, bearing placements and concrete cures to ensure durability under operational loading conditions.
City planners described the advancement as an important step towards improved urban connectivity and greater public transport choice for residents. The Blue Line will link key residential and commercial areas and is expected to reduce surface congestion and journey times when operational. Local employment opportunities expanded during the civil phase as labour and specialist crews were engaged. Community liaison teams engaged with local residents to mitigate disruption and coordinate timings for noisy activities.
Work will continue with additional span erections, track installation and systems integration ahead of testing and commissioning phases. Authorities will coordinate traffic management and utility clearances to maintain safety and smooth progress during remaining works. Afcons indicated subsequent milestones will be reported as construction advances and stakeholder updates continue. Project oversight includes periodic inspections by independent engineers and coordination with transit authorities to align commissioning schedules.
