Mumbai, Aug. 29 -- Amara Raja Infra Private Limited has emerged as the successful bidder for a Rs 571.3 million (Rs 571.3 mn) contract awarded by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited for the extension of the 400/230 kV Tuticorin?II Gas Insulated Substation in Tamil Nadu. The contract, awarded on 24 August 2026, covers augmentation with a single 500 MVA, 400/230 kV interconnecting transformer, the seventh at the site, and the installation of one 230 kV line bay to provide connectivity to IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited.
The scope includes the supply, erection, testing and commissioning of the GIS extension works together with associated civil works, fire protection systems and terminal connectors required for the transformer installation. The tender was conducted under a domestic competitive bidding process and received five responsive and qualified bids. Other participating firms included Hyosung T&D India Private Limited, Kanti Prashad Mittal, Hartek Power Private Limited and EPC Infracon Pvt Ltd.
The Tuticorin?II GIS expansion forms part of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited's wider effort to strengthen transmission infrastructure in southern India. The added transformation capacity will augment the substation's capability while the new 230 kV line bay will enable evacuation and grid connection for renewable energy projects developed by IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Private Limited, a joint venture between IndianOil and NTPC Green Energy Limited.
The contract also encompasses civil works for the autotransformer foundation, firewall construction and earthing connections and covers the extension of the existing high?velocity water spray and hydrant system for fire protection. Amara Raja Infra will be responsible for delivering equipment and completing installation, testing and handover as set out in the contract. The award underscores ongoing investment in transmission upgrades to support growing renewable capacity in the region.
Completion timelines and project milestones were specified in the tender documents and will be overseen by Power Grid Corporation of India Limited as part of standard project governance. The order adds to Amara Raja Infra's portfolio of transmission and substation projects and is expected to enhance grid resilience around the Tuticorin area.
