Mumbai, Sept. 2 -- Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) Additional Managing Director B Ajith Reddy has directed officials to expedite works for the Old City Metro expansion after inspecting road?widening along the corridor. He conducted the inspection on Saturday together with HMRL Chief Engineer S Bhaskar Reddy and reviewed progress on site to assess constraints and the sequencing of civil works. The visit focused on measures to maintain project momentum while minimising disruption to local traffic and residents. The inspection assessed the sequencing of civil works and identified required adjustments to traffic management and temporary diversions to reduce inconvenience for commuters.
He reviewed the seven point five?kilometre stretch from Darulshifa to Chandrayangutta and took stock of property acquisition along the alignment. Of the 888 properties affected, 833 have been acquired and 55 remain to be acquired. He discussed with officials specific measures to facilitate the Metro alignment around the remaining properties to reduce alignment changes and avoid further delays.
He directed officials to expedite the relocation of utilities, including power lines, poles and water pipelines, wherever land acquisition has been completed so that these do not hinder construction activities. The instruction included prioritising areas where utility shifts are on the critical path to enable uninterrupted progress of road?widening and Metro works. Officials were asked to co?ordinate closely with utility agencies to ensure timely shifting and restoration.
HMRL will continue to monitor the corridor and review weekly progress to accelerate implementation within the existing schedule. Officials were tasked with refining work sequences and contractor coordination to limit obstructions and minimise the need for further property interventions. Continued focus on acquisitions and utility relocation is intended to sustain momentum on the Old City Metro expansion. Officials were advised to maintain clear communication with local representatives and affected households to help manage expectations during works.
