Mumbai, July 28 -- Jammu and Kashmir has 38 National Highway (NH) projects under construction, of which 25 have exceeded their original completion schedules, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways informed the Rajya Sabha. The information was provided in response to an unstarred question by Rajya Sabha member Mahendra Bhatt and recorded in parliamentary documents. The disclosure formed part of a wider update on the status of highway projects across the country. The ministry identified the projects and their timelines in state and Union Territory wise details placed before Parliament.
The Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Jairam Gadkari, informed the House that 1,191 National Highway projects are currently under construction across the country. The minister stated that the figure excludes projects under consideration for termination or foreclosure. He further indicated that 629 out of these 1,191 projects have spilled beyond their original completion timelines. Detailed breakdowns by state and Union Territory were placed before Parliament.
According to the state and Union Territory wise details, Jammu and Kashmir has 38 ongoing NH projects, with 25 projects delayed beyond their scheduled completion dates. In Ladakh, seven National Highway projects are under construction, of which five have exceeded their original completion schedules, the data showed. The documents provided counts and completion status for each listed jurisdiction.
The ministry response formed part of routine parliamentary oversight of infrastructure delivery and was recorded in parliamentary records.
