New Delhi, Aug. 15 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge to provide Artificial Intelligence skill training to one crore young Indians over the next year is the headline number from the technology portion of his 2026 Independence Day address.

For India's startups and small businesses, however, the more important message is what sits behind that number.
