New Delhi, March 20 -- OpenAI is moving a step deeper into the software development stack with its planned acquisition of Astral, a company known for building widely used open-source Python developer tools.

The move is less about adding new features and more about where AI sits in the development process. With Astral, OpenAI is positioning Codex closer to the day-to-day tools developers already rely on, rather than keeping it as a layer that simply generates code.
