New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- Google has agreed to report content flagged as child sexual abuse material, or CSAM, directly to Indian authorities, changing a long-standing process in which such reports have first gone to the U.S.-based National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).

It signals growing pressure on global technology platforms to examine whether centralized reporting systems remain suitable for markets where response time can be critical.

Until now, Google and Meta have for years reported such material to NCMEC. The U.S.-based nonprofit then passes relevant reports to law enforcement agencies in the country concerned.
